For those of us who are health-conscious, Halloween presents a sticky (and sugary) moral dilemma:
On the one hand, you can’t in good conscious hand out lethal doses of refined sugar and high fructose corn syrup to your neighborhood trick or treaters. But you also don’t want to be the house that gets egged for passing out apples (or worse, toothbrushes) on October 31st either.
Luckily there are some deceptively delicious snacks out there that strike the perfect balance between tasty and healthy, and make for the perfect healthier Halloween treats.
So stick with us this Halloween – and you won’t get tricked because of your treats.
Pirates Booty Aged White Cheddar
Kids love these delicious bags of savory (and slightly addicting) puffed rice and corn snacks made with real aged white cheddar.
And this Booty isn’t just delicious – it’s a treat with no tricks! Pirate’s Booty is baked (never fried), certified gluten free, Kosher, and made without artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives.
Pro-tip: Keep bags of these handy specifically for any trick or treaters who dress as swashbucklers, then hit them with your best “Arrr Matey,” as you drop it in their bucket.
Black Forest Organic Sour Heads
Our motto here at SnackNation is to count wholesome, all-natural ingredients as these will energize you through the day as well as trick or treating festivities.
That’s why we love Black Forest – their products are all made with USDA certified organic ingredients, like organic tapioca syrup, pure organic cane sugar, and natural colorings. To achieve this standard, they’ve pioneered new cooking methods and scoured the globe for just the right ingredients.
Black Forest’s brand new Organic Sour Heads come in special spooky Halloween shapes that are the perfect addition to any trick or treat bag.
These chewy little delights hit you with a dose of sour that quickly turns sweet. Flavors include lemon, fruit punch, lime, orange and raspberry. From the maker of the world’s best tasting gummy bears.
Betty Lou’s Pumpkin Spice Nut Butter Balls
Betty Lou isn’t just a brand – she’s a person! The company started more than 30 years ago when Betty Lou, a mom from Oregon, wanted to remove refined sugar from her kids’ diets. Thus began a quest to create better tasting healthy snacks – that kids actually want to eat.
Rather than pump her products full of addicting sugar, she sweetens her energy and nutrient packed concoctions with honey and brown rice syrup.
Her Nut Butter Balls are the company’s signature product, and they have a limited edition pumpkin spice flavor just in time for the Halloween season. Not only are these balls non GMO, gluten free, and vegan, they also pack a mean 5g of fiber and protein.
Dandies Vegan Marshmallows
Did you know that most marshmallows aren’t vegan??
Yep, the majority contain gelatin – a colorless food additive made from collagen extracted from the skin, bones, and connective tissue of livestock. (That’s downright frightful.)
Not so for Dandies Vegan Marshmallows. As the name implies these soft and airy mallows are 100% free from animal products, and are a perfect healthier alternative for Halloween cocoa, s’mores, or even trick or treat bags.
Fru-licious Apple Strawberry Twists
Mix things up this Halloween with a twist from Fru-licious.
These utterly unique apple strawberry twists are made with 99% real fruit and zero artificial ingredients. Plus their portion controlled pouches make for the perfect Halloween giveaway.
Superseedz Maple Sugar and Sea Salt
Get into the spirit of the season with a treat that even the Great Pumpkin himself would approve of – Superseedz Maple Sugar and Sea Salt flavored pumpkin seeds.
These gourmet, no shell pumpkin seeds are lovingly seasoned with 100% pure maple sugar and unrefined sea salt. They make for a sweet and savory taste sensation that’s packed with protein and nutrients.
So tasty that your trick or treaters won’t know they’re doing themselves a favor!
As you can see, there’s no shortage of healthier options to make sure that you’re keeping your neighborhood trick or treaters healthy and satisfied.

Awesome ideas!
Always tricky to find healthy snacks that are also allergy-friendly! Thanks for the ideas…..
Marshmallows were such a sad loss for me when I went vegan two years ago. We had Dandies in our box this month and I LOVE them!
Never thought of mini-popcorns as a treat, great idea!
Glad we can change it up from the usual!
I love Betty Lou’s Pumpkin Spice Nut Butter Balls. I haven’t tried Superseedz Maple Sugar and Sea Salt but they sure look good on that salad in the picture. Great holiday ideas!
Maybe not SUPER healthy, but I still love caramel covered apples!
Thank you for the introduction to fru-licious! I’m going to keep an eye out for those specifically and not just for Halloween!
My kids love pirate booty, just wish there were smaller packs to make it cost effective for giving out at Halloween.
The healthy snack game has gone up so much that I don’t even mind that I’m being healthy on Halloween with snacks like Pirates Booty.
Love, love, love Pirate Booty!
These look delicious! I’ve started giving out fun little toys instead of any treats. Last year was whistles that look like lips, with Dracula teeth for Halloween!
I don’t celebrate Halloween but these snacks look good!
Love the Organic Sour Heads!
Nice alternatives to the regular Halloween treats….
Popcorn is always a good option to give. But some of the others look like good options.
What great snack alternatives! I do something I like to call “boo-nana pops”. All it is a banana, white chocolate and a popsicle stick. You slice the banana in half, insert the popsicle stick and dip it into the white chocolate. And of course we can’t forget the two chocolate chips for the eyes. You then freeze it overnight and by morning you will have tasty yet healthy “boo-nana” pops!
One of my favorite parts of Halloween is carving a pumpkin and roasting the seeds. Interested in the Superseedz
good article
My children and I are on a supplement program which is vitamins packed with fruits, veggies, and berry (capsules for me, but yummy gummies for them) The fruitalicous sticks work awesome with this regimen and they think it is just another fruit roll up type snack, and love them. While I sit back and just smile, knowing they are getting something good for them, but have no idea
I love Pirates Booty – so delicious!
This is a great list. The Nut Butter Balls and the Pumpkin Seed look so good, I’m going to try to track them down for myself. Thanks!
Yum! will definitely try one or two of these!
Great ideas for healthier treat giving at Halloween!
These are great alternatives to the sweets! Thanks for the ideas.
Bananas will be great for my trick or treaters
excellent ideas
I like alternative ideas…..Something good for you and unique.
Annie’s Organic also sells mini packs of cookies (grahams and chocolate) that you can pass out; as well as UTZ pretezels in small packs. My kids think I’m boring when I pass out healthy snacks, but I know there is at least (1) parent out there that’s like “YES!” Haha…
We’re in love with the Black Forest Organic Sour Heads!
Wish we got the Dandies!! They would be great for my coffee!
We offer non-candy alternatives at work for employees to hand out at home. It’s a great way to really get the point across.
These sound like good alternatives!
I order a lot of FRUIT for the office and healthy snacks that are gluten-free and organic.
Great ideas. I can’t wait to try the Nut Butter Balls!
Pretty good ideas. I had no idea those nut balls were pumpkin spice, I’m going to try one right now. 🙂
These are all good ideas. The difficult part is getting people to accept these alternatives, which taste great.
I have not heard of many of these snacks before. I’d like to hand them out at Halloween if I can find them.
Yumm! These all sound delicious.
I have never thought of many of these ideas as alternatives. I’m going to have to try them.
These all sound like such great ideas. Thanks!
I’m thinking about handing some of these snacks out on Halloween in my neighborhood. They sound delicious!
I love the organic options. Great variety on this list!
I don’t know how kids will like these ideas, but I personally love them!
We loved the Sour Heads from Black Forest Organic. Great pick for those that want something organic and perfect for Halloween
Pirates booty is so good!
All natural vanilla marshmallows?! Sign me up!!!
Dandies are the best!!!
I wish I would have handed these out on Halloween. They would have been awesome for the kids.
Great alternatives!
We’ve gotten all these snacks in our last few snack boxes and they’re great! My personal favorite are the Fru-licious Apple Strawberry Twists 🙂 Pirate’s Booty is also a long-time favorite of mine.
These are great ideas for Halloween treats! I’m making a list for next year!
Lots of good options on this list! But I’m leaning toward also participating in the Teal Pumpkin Project and having a few non-food options for those kiddos with allergies. Even some of the above items are not allergy friendly. I’m not a promoter or anything, but here is more info if anyone is curious what else kiddos enjoy having handed out 🙂 https://www.foodallergy.org/education-awareness/teal-pumpkin-project#.VipXVyBVikp
Love the great ideas coming from other Snack Nation customers!
